Saudi Arabia and Google offer 1 million university students a year of Gemini

Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Communications and Information Technology and Google announced at LEAP 2026 an initiative to give one million university students free access to Google AI Plus for a year. Students aged 18 or older must verify their university status and register by December 31; the plan offers higher Gemini usage limits, 400 GB of storage, and tools for research, organizing course material, creating study aids, and generating media. The ministry and Google will also run training programs over the year, which matters because handing students an AI tool is not the same as teaching them to use it well. The partnership puts generative AI into university life at national scale, treating it as a practical skill for study and work rather than a specialist technology.
