SpaceX lines up $40 billion for AI hardware
SpaceX has a binding commitment for roughly $40 billion to finance GPUs and related data-center equipment. Reports say an Apollo-managed entity would buy the hardware and lease it to SpaceX for about five years as it is delivered, spreading the cost of building computing capacity rather than paying for it all upfront. The arrangement is still subject to closing conditions and is expected to begin supplying equipment in the first half of 2027, for use in SpaceX’s planned AI and cloud-computing buildout. A separate report said the costliest slice of the financing could carry an 8.75% rate, a reminder that lenders will fund the AI infrastructure race—but are demanding a high price for the risk.
