WhatsApp lets people join calls without an account
WhatsApp is rolling out guest calling, which lets an account holder send a call link to someone who does not use WhatsApp. The guest opens the link in a computer browser, enters a name, and waits for the host to admit them; the calls can be one-to-one or include up to 32 people. WhatsApp says the calls remain end-to-end encrypted, while guests cannot see other participants’ phone numbers, message the group, or invite others. The change makes WhatsApp less of a closed messaging app for calls: users can now treat it more like a meeting link when a colleague, client, or family member is outside the service.
