ChatGPT, Claude and Grok hit overlapping outages
Friday, September 4, 2026
ChatGPT, Anthropic’s Claude and xAI’s Grok all suffered service disruptions on Thursday, an unusual overlap among tools that many people now use as everyday work software. OpenAI reported elevated errors in ChatGPT and its coding tool Codex; Anthropic reported errors affecting several Claude models; and Grok’s status page recorded a models outage. The companies later indicated that service had recovered, but none publicly established a common cause. Axios also reported user complaints about Google’s Gemini, though Google had not confirmed an incident, so the episode is better understood as simultaneous failures than proof that one shared system broke.
